Alaskan Adventures – seafood, scenery and more!
A few weeks ago, I shared the story of our false alarm about leaving Alaska. Quite frankly, it broke my heart to be leaving our Alaskan adventures behind, although when we found out we were staying, it was hard to let go of the new life we had begun planning in Wisconsin.
But the biggest fear I had when leaving was that we would never be back. I’m from here, and Alaska will ALWAYS have a huge piece of my heart, wherever we live. There are so many amazing things to do here, and I feel like I’ve got so much left to accomplish. So many adventures to have. So many hikes to do. So many places to take my kid.
We didn’t make it to the start of the Iditarod this year because my kiddo wasn’t having it. I want him to get out of the city and see how cool the northern lights are. I want to take him fishing. On a boat. Dipnetting. Even just off the dock in Whittier.
I want to take him on amazing Alaskan adventures. Teach him how to cook salmon or shrimp or halibut caught that day. I wrote about some of my favorite Alaskan adventures here (that’s a not-so-subtle request for you to click through and check it out!), but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There’s still Kennecott, Nome, Kodiak. All these amazing, wonderful places filled with my favorite people.
And we get to stay, and experience Alaska seafood, Alaska fun, and Alaska life. I may have always thought Anchorage’s slogan “Big. Wild. Life.” was a little cheesy, until we were leaving again. After we moved back 5 years ago, we had decided to put down roots and stay.
Now we actually can. For the first time in years, we have stability and a plan. It’s totally weird. But totally fun, and we can’t wait to see how it goes.
