Spring Cleaning: Simplify Your Life
If you’ve been following the saga of our family’s lives this year, then you’ll know we abruptly decided to move cross-country in late March… with a departure date of May 25. What that actually meant for us was a whirlwind of activity and lots of spring cleaning. We purged, we cleaned, we remodeled, and we painted. Then just days before putting the house on the market, my husband accepted a job here! And now, we live in a nicely update home that we had planned to sell.
Suffice it to say I learned a lot in a very short time. Bless our realtor’s heart – fortunately no hard costs came about before my husband accepted a job in our town. She knows she will have our next listing though. No ifs, ands, or butts. We hadn’t really done a purge … ever. We’ve been married for just over 8 years, and had a few moves, but since the military moved us, we hadn’t ever REALLY gone through all of our things. All of a sudden when we were moving, we were paying for our own move. So paring our earthly belongings down to as little as possible was critical.
I love my “new” house… and my full garage (since I still need to actually get RID of all of the goods we no longer need). I don’t want to go through the process of a 30 day remodel and purge anytime soon again, though!
I’ve agreed to write several posts on improving the moving process, and I’ll be sure to share them here soon, but first, I want to share my tips for purging! Check out the post here: Tips for Purging to Make Your Next Move Easier.
Honestly, if purging – or spring cleaning – is new to you, you’ll be astounded at how much fun it can be to simplify your life… and your belongings. And you don’t need to wait for a big move! Do your spring cleaning once a year or more, even if it’s not technically in the spring. Take the time to enjoy what you have, and you’ll find it easy to purge everything you do not!
