#NationalCoffeeDay – Starbucks Fall Lineup
I adore coffee. Adore it. It’s been said that Alaskans are bigger coffee lovers — and snobs — than people in Seattle. After all, we’ve been doing gourmet coffee just as long, if not longer.
I miss my corner coffee stands. My Kaladi roasts.
And I like Starbucks. It does the trick. But I don’t love it. Not like I love my small batch locally roasted taste of wonderful. To me, Starbucks coffee, while good needs a little something extra. And maybe that’s why they do it. But truly amazing coffee is good in it’s original brewed state – that is, black as night.
But I do love a good latte. And I especially love the gimmicky Pumpkin Spice Latte. All hail the #PSL. I also love fall flavors. Although this is no autumn like I’ve experienced (80s + humidity until a few days ago), I’m all about the yummy coffee. Even if it’s not from Kaladi Brothers.
Before I realized that today is National Coffee Day, I’ve made it my goal this week to go through the Starbucks fall line up and see what I love. Why not? Treat yo’self!
The coffee snob’s verdict:
What follows is my take on what is good, and what isn’t worth the money from the top three Starbucks coffees this fall.
- Salted Caramel Mocha (10/10) – perfection in a cup. No really. It’s got coffee. It’s got chocolate. It’s got salted caramel. Salted caramel. You don’t need anything to go right for the rest of the day. The coffee is simply that good. Of course, I hope the rest of your day goes well, but if not, Starbucks has your back with another one of these babies.
- Pumpkin Spice Latte (7-8/10) – all hail the #psl. So I love this latte. I have to have one every year. At least one. But, as expensive as these get, it’s only on the awesome side of average.
- Maple Pecan Latte (5/10) – meh. Meh sums this one up. There’s not much maple. There’s not much pecan. It’s a decent latte, but not worth the extra money for the flavor gimmick. If you like your coffee with a side of nuttiness, just make it with almond milk, or maybe a little hazelnut. You’ll be good to go.
There’s also the steamed apple cider. Life is pretty good with that too.
Also, you can never go wrong with the hot chocolate. Never ever. Especially if you’re 4 and don’t need any caffeine to keep you going. And especially if the whipped cream goes on top of the cup. Life is at its pinnacle here, clearly.
How did you celebrate #NationalCoffeeDay?
